ABOUT MODEL UNITED NATION
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.MUN involves and teaches participants speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Usually an extracurricular activity, some schools also offer Model UN as a class. It is meant to engage students and allow them to develop deeper understanding into current world issues.
United Nations General Assembly
The General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, the only one in which
all Member States have equal representation: one nation, one vote. All 193 Member States of
the United Nations are represented in this unique forum to discuss and work together on a wide
array of international issues covered by the UN Charter, such as development, peace and
security, international law, etc.

United Nations Security Council
The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act
of aggression. It calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and
recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement. In some cases, the Security Council
can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore
international peace and security.
The Security Council has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and
security. It has 15 Members, and each Member has one vote. Under the Charter of the United
Nations, all Member States are obligated to comply with Council decisions.

United Nations Human Rights Council
The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system
responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe
and for addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them. It
has the ability to discuss all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its
attention throughout the year. It meets at the UN Office at Geneva.
